LOGAN, W.Va. – The deadline for filing for the 2016 election is midnight Saturday, January 30, 2016, however, Logan County Clerk John A. Turner will provide extended hours to accommodate those wanting to file.
Turner said his office will be open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
“The county clerk’s offices are not required to be open that day, but I will show up,” Turner said. “This is just for filing.”
Turner said the extended hours are just for candidates to file, no other services provided by the clerk’s office will be available.
Turner said some candidates may choose to mail their filing papers instead of filing by person.
“Those papers have to be post marked by midnight, January 30, by the United States Postal Service,” Turner said.
Due to the possibility of a candidate filing by mail, Turner said it would be about a week before a final list of the candidates would be known.
Turner’s office is for those filing for county offices; for those who want to file for a state or national office, the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office will also be open Saturday.
The Secretary of State’s Office will have extended at the Charleston office from 9 a.m.–midnight Saturday, January 30; the Fairmont office will be open from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. on Saturday, January 30.
If filing on Saturday in Charleston, candidates should come through the West Wing Capitol entrance across from the West Virginia Culture Center. This entrance will be open on Saturday through midnight.
