CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — The Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting Sunday, February 28, at 73 Eagles Roost Road, near Chapmanville, where a 48 year-old-man was found dead.
According to a press release, deputies arrived at the residence of Casey Adams at approximately 9 p.m. where they observed the victim, David Joe Whitt lying on the kitchen floor of Adams’ residence with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The suspect, Casey Adams, 54 years-old, was present on the scene when the officers arrived.
At this time Adams was interviewed and according to his statement, he advised officers that Whitt came to his house and upon entering his residence and was angry and agitated. Adams stated that Whitt tried to fight him and that Whitt was told to leave several times. According to Adams’ statement, Whitt then pulled a knife on Adams. At this time, Adams pulled a .45 caliber pistol and told Whitt to leave. At that point a physical altercation ensued and Whitt was shot once in the head.
There were no other persons at the residence at this time.
According to the release, medical personnel from LEASA as well as Mike Casey, field medical examiner, responded to the scene where Whitt was pronounced dead.
Sgt. Brian Cobb, Logan County Sheriff’s Department, is leading the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time, however the investigation is continuing.
