CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police said a juvenile is being charged in Boone County with involuntary manslaughter in a bow-and-arrow accident that killed his friend.
Sgt. Charles Sutphin said Tuesday that a petition has been filed and signed against the juvenile.
Caleb Fairchild, 15, a student at Chapmanville Middle School, died on March 20 after being shot in the head with an arrow during a game he was playing with two other friends on March 19.
Troopers previously said the incident happened at a home along Lee Miller Road near the Boone/Logan County line.
The boys were apparently in the front yard and they would take turns running across the yard while another one would shoot the bow.
Troopers said the boys said they weren’t trying to hit anyone, shooting in the grass, but a stray arrow struck Fairchild in the head.
