LOGAN, W.Va. — The ARTS has announced they will be taking Southern West Virginia somewhere over the rainbow this summer with their upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz.” Performances will be held at the historic Coalfield Jamboree Theatre in downtown Logan July 29 -31 and August 4-7th.
The ARTS will be producing the musical stage version of the 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer movie starring the ruby-slippered Judy Garland. Notable for its use of Technicolor, fantasy storytelling, musical score and unusual characters, “The Wizard of Oz” has become an American popular culture icon. The ARTS, Inc. looks forward to bringing wholesome family entertainment to Logan this July.
This high-energy show is ideal for a large cast of all ages, so please make plans to come audition and become a part of the magic. With its well-known score and beloved characters, this show is one you won’t want to miss!
Representatives for the ARTS explained no prior theatre experience necessary to audition but it is always welcome. Volunteers are also needed to work backstage and in the lobby.

Singing/Acting Auditions will be held Thursday, May 12th from 5-9pm and Friday, May 13th from 5-6:30 p.m. Prospective players are asked to please prepare 16 bars of a song and a 30 second to 1 minute monologue for the audition.
Sheet music, cd or an MP3 will be need to be provided for accompaniment, but an accompanist and stereo will be provided.
The ARTS encourages all prospective players to bring a list of any dates they would not be available for rehearsals as they will need to fill out a contact and conflict sheet before auditioning.
Company Dance Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 14th and will be by “audition invitation only.” Times will be announced Friday evening. If selected to attend, you will be notified during your audition or contacted by Friday evening.
Rehearsals will begin May 31.
