DINGESS – West Virginia State Police (WVSP) arrested a Dingess man Sunday morning around 2:00 a.m. who allegedly said he was going to bomb a police cruiser or courthouse.
Troopers R. L. Jennings and D.L. Contos of the Williamson detachment of the State Police caught up with Herman Vance, 59, near the Mingo-Logan county line. He is charged with obstructing, simple possession and illegal possession of destructive devices and explosives.
Troopers say Vance had the pipe bomb in a truck. Police say the suspect made threats that he was going to put the bomb inside a police cruiser or the Mingo County Courthouse.
Trooper Jennings said an anonymous tip about Vance led to them finding an explosive device in the suspect’s vehicle.
The WVSP police believe Vance acted alone in his threat. Two troopers from the Logan detachment assisted in the arrest and investigation.
Vance is lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden.
