WILLIAMSON – A man in a wheelchair was robbed in broad daylight on Logan Street in downtown Williamson on Wednesday morning around 8:45 a.m.

Bobby R. Taylor, who resides on 6th Avenue in Williamson, was wheeled to the ATM outside the First National Bank.

Alexandria Janean Hatcher, who resides on Mulberry Street in Williamson, had wheeled Taylor to the ATM where he withdrew a large amount of cash.

Hatcher asked Taylor for a cigarette and that is when she allegedly took his wallet, after putting his lighter back in his pocket. However Taylor resisted her attempt at taking his billfold.

Williamson Police Department (WPD) Chief Barry Blair was patrolling through town when he came to the stop light at Hurley Drug on Third Avenue. Blair immediately initiated his lights and siren and turned down Logan Street toward the altercation.

“I pulled up to the light and saw him holding onto her shirt sleeve,” Blair said.

When he approached the two individuals he saw that Taylor still had a hold of Hatcher’s sleeve.

Once he realized that it was a robbery he handcuffed Hatcher. She resisted at first, but Chief Blair was able to get the restraints on the female and then asked her to sit down.

Blair also stated that Hatcher appeared intoxicated and he could smell alcohol on her breath.

Hatcher indicated she did not have the wallet, but when she was sitting down to her seated position, Blair saw that the billfold was hidden down in her pants.

Tonya Webb, an employee in the Mingo County Probation office, came to the scene after the incident occurred and helped Blair transport Taylor to the WPD Station on Fourth Avenue.

Stat Medical EMTs were called to the WPD to examine Hatcher after she passed out. She admitted to them she had taken several types of medications, according to Chief Blair.

Hatcher was charged with robbery and resisting arrest. She was later arraigned in Mingo County Magistrate Court and lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden.
