CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — The Logan Area Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is making final preparations for this weekend’s Annual Jakes Fishing Day. The fishing day is open to all area youth 17 and under and will have a host of activities for youngsters of all ages.

The event is held at the Camp Chief Logan Boy Scout Camp located on Garrett Fork and is expected to be a huge success just as in years past. The Chapter has worked hard to pull together resources and sponsors to help make the annual fishing day a great time for everyone in attendance.

The pond will be stocked with hundreds of pounds of catfish just chomping at the bit and eager to take the bait of the anxious young fishermen. Fishing will start promptly at 10 a.m. and — with a little luck — so will the catching.

The Logan Area Chapter will also be providing a picnic lunch of hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks for all those in attendance. What could be better than a day of fishing and a great lunch?

Prizes! Did we mention prizes? There will be plenty of door prizes given away at the event as well. Each child registered will be given a chance to win one of the many prizes given out throughout the day.

There will be everything from catfish bait to brand new rods and reels to be given away. This is by far the favorite event for the Chapter volunteers and they do everything they can to make sure everyone has a great time.

Once again this year the Chapter will have the NWTF JAKES Take Aim Trailer on hand with its portable air rifle range. So if the fish aren’t biting the kids can take a break and try their hand at shooting some air rifles.

The focus of this event is to get area youth interested in not only fishing, but in just getting outdoors. They even stress that no experience is required, just show up and there will be plenty of volunteers on hand to help get you started and catching fish.

“Our focus is just to get kids outdoors. Even if a kid has never fished before, we make sure we have someone there to help them. All they have to do is show up and let us know and we will make sure they get the chance to spend the day fishing and having fun,” Robin Wolfe, longtime volunteer with the NWTF, said.

The event is this Saturday June 18th, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and everyone is welcome even if you aren’t a member of the NWTF. This event is for all the area youth.

The Logan Area Chapter has a Facebook page with more details, or if anyone wants to help out or make contributions to the event. They can also contact Roger and Robin Wolfe at 304-855-9148 or Doyle and Linda Gore at 304-239-2025.
