WEST LOGAN, W.Va. — Following an exchange of gunfire one man reportedly ended his own life Tuesday June 21.
During an interview with the Logan Banner, Sergeant R.L. Frye, with the West Virginia State Police, reported that in the afternoon of June 21, Leonard Daugherty entered the home of Gary Browning in West Logan and became verbally abusive towards a female.
While inside the home, Frye reports Daugherty fired a gun at Browning. Browning allegedly retrieved his own gun and returned fire toward Daugherty.
Following the exchange of gunfire, Daugherty is reported to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Witnesses on the scene reported hearing gunshots that appeared to have emanated from inside and outside of Browning’s home.
Frye noted the prosecutor’s office will make a final determination on whether or not charges will be filed against Browning; however, he added charges are not currently anticipated.
