The Logan County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) recently Lucky Lee Smith on charges of felony burglary after receiving a complaint from the Big Creek area of Chapmanville.

Smith reportedly stole building supplies and electronic devices from a home only half a mile from his own.

Sergeant B.D. Cobb, with the LSCD, reports he was dispatched to the area by Logan County 911 following a call from a witness who reported Lucky Lee Smith was loading property from a home on North Fork Road into a vehicle.

The suspect reportedly left the scene while Cobb was on his way; however, the witness stated Smith lived near the victim.

Cobb reports he traveled about a half of a mile past the victim’s home and went directly to Smith’s home.

The vehicle the witness allegedly stated Smith was loading was parked at Smith residence, and Cobb notes he saw several items still in the back of the car.

Cobb reports he was able to take Smith into custody at that time.

Corporal T.R. Brumfield reportedly spoke with the victim who was able to describe missing items that matched items in the back of Smith’s vehicle.

After he was taken to the sheriff’s office for processing, Smith allegedly signed a form waiving his Miranda Rights and provided law enforcement with a written statement confessing to stealing items from the home.

The items stolen reportedly included a ceiling fan, vanity light bar, wax warmer, x-box, several video games and DVDs.

At the time of his arrest, Smith was reportedly on parole for unrelated offenses.

Smith is charged with a felony count of burglary and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny.

Bail was set to $25,000 in Logan County Magistrate Court.
