Officials with the City of Logan recently announced the inception of the First Annual Woods and Water Festival.
The new festival is being organized in conjunction with Four Seasons Country Store in Logan and will take place over the weekend preceding Labor Day Sept. 5, 2016.
The Woods and Water Festival will take full advantage of the outdoor playground that surrounds the city of Logan featuring trail rides, poker runs, a scavenger hunt along the Guyandotte River and a fishing contest.
“We are excited to showcase what Logan has to offer. We want to invite everyone to come and play outside with their family and be active,” noted city clerk Amber Miller Viars.
The event will also have fair food, music and entertainment, and along with the raft of outdoor activities, a children’s worm dig, rock wall climbing, zip lining and a treasure float on the Guyandotte are also planned.
Four Seasons Country Store will also be making their southern style meals available to festival goers.
“The resources we have here are abundant, but we take them for granted because we see them every single day. Logan is truly is a playground. People come from all over to do what we have in our own backyard,” added Viars.
Festival goers in the coalfields may have felt the absence of the WV Freedom Festival in this year’s slate of fairs and festivals; however, Viars noted the Woods and Water Festival will also serve as a means to raise funds to bring the Freedom Festival back to the streets of Logan in 2017 and beyond.
The Logan Banner will provide more updates on the Woods and Water Festival and the WV Freedom Festival as they become available.
