LOGAN, W.Va. — Combat wounded veterans with disabilities are invited to participate in a special Purple Heart Trail Ride this Friday, August 26, 2016.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 733, is arranging for side by sides to take veterans for a ride on the Bear Wallow Trail of the Hatfield Mc Coy Trail System. To register a combat wounded veteran with disabilities, or for more information, contact MOPH at 304-855-2009 or email [email protected] Pre-registration is required for Friday’s ride to make sure we have enough vehicles to accommodate our veterans.
Chapter 733 started this special project in 2014. More veterans participated last year and the Chapter hope’s this year’s event will be even bigger. They want every combat wounded veteran to be aware of this opportunity to enjoy a ride in our beautiful mountains. So, if you know someone who qualifies, let them know about this special day set aside just for them to honor their service.
On Saturday, August 27, Chapter 733 invites the general public to join combat wounded veterans in a Purple Heart Poker Ride on the Bear Wallow Trail of the Hatfield McCoy Trail System.
Registration will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday on Middelburg Island at Logan. Fee is $20 for driver and $10 each for additional riders. Registrants will receive a free T-shirt with registration while supplies last. Logan Motorcycle Sales and Keefer Powersports are providing prizes to be given away in drawings after the ride for registered riders. There will be lunch and refreshments after the ride. Awards will also be given for Best and Worst hands in the poker ride.
All proceeds from the Purple Heart Poker Ride will go to Chapter 733 for special projects for combat wounded veterans with disabilities.
Chapter 733 wants to thank the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 308, the City of Logan, the Logan Police and Fire Departments, the Logan County Commission, the Hatfield Mc Coy Trail System, the Mud Buddies Foundation, Logan Motorcycle Sales and Keefer Powersports for their assistance in making this Purple Heart Ride event possible.
