Motor vehicle accident apparent suicide

On Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at approximately 7am, Sgt. B.D. Cobb and Deputy R.L. Johnson both with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, responded to a one car motor vehicle accident on County Route 17 just before the Mountain Laurel Mines.

Upon arriving to the scene of the motor vehicle accident both units observed a 2002 black in color Dodge Ram 1500 situated over an embankment, police reported.

It appeared that while the vehicle was traveling South bound on County Rt. 17 when it crossed the center line of the highway going into the North bound lane were the vehicle had struck the side of the guardrail and proceeded to travel over the embankment before coming to a rest in trees along the embankment, police said.

During the investigation of the motor vehicle a young male was found deceased away from the accident scene and was near a creek bank, according to police.

It was determined through the investigation that the deceased died as a result of an alleged suicide, police said in a news release.

The deceased was identified as Charles Tyler Harrison, 23 years of age, from the Stollings area of Logan County. The county coroner was notified upon locating the deceased.

The Logan County Sheriffs Department was assisted by Sharples Vol. Fire Department and LEASA Ambulance Authority.

Sheriff S.M. Dingess Porter advised that the investigation into this matter is continuing by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department to make sure all questions concerning this situation can be answered.
