Lyp Sync contestants rock WV Freedom Fest

Twelve acts competed in the 2014 Freedom Festival Lip Sync Competition on Thurs., July 3. The acts consisted of first time competitors as well as a few veterans. The overall winner of the competition was awarded $250.


Bill France emceed the competition in which people got up on stage and became another person, moving their lips to the original song lyrics, but not singing out loud.


Contestants were judged on three categories: appearance, lip sync and overall performance. The judges were Miss Teen Idol West Virginia, Shana Nelson; co-owner of Rock City Bakery, Lori Justice and the 2014 Freedom Festival Queen, Alyx Stover.


The contestants only performed the first minute and a half of the songs they chose.


The reigning champ, Jaylyn Vance of Chapmanville Middle School, performed Chris Brown’s Main Chick. Vance was awarded honorable mention in this year’s competition.


Dillon Vidovich, a recent Logan High School graduate, rocked the stage with Motley Crew’s Girls Girls Girls. Vidovich won Best Overall performance.

Best Individual: Katie Bojaski, Pink’s So What


Crowd Choice: Jada McNeely, Iggy Azalea’s Fancy


Best Duo: Madison Nelson and Katie Mullins, The Blues Brother’s Soul Man


Best Costume: Hayley Dehart and Cheyenne, Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun


Honorable Mention: Kathy Woody and Jocelyn Holstein, Josh Runyon, JoJo Maynard, Alyssa Schell, Kaitlyn Woody, Lexie Hagar and Jaylyn Vance.
