Barker ceremony scheduled for Monday
CHARLESTON — The newest member of the state House of Delegates is inviting friends and supporters to the Charleston ceremony where he will be sworn into office.
Newly-appointed Delegate Josh Barker, representing the 22nd Delegate District, has scheduled his swearing-in ceremony for 1 p.m., Monday, August 5. Tentative plans call for Boone County Circuit Judge Will Thompson to preside. The ceremony will be held in the state House of Delegates chamber.
Barker was appointed Wednesday, July31, to fill the unexpired term of former Delegate Josh Stowers, who resigned to accept a position in the state treasurer’s office. The 22nd District, composed of the majority of Lincoln County and portions of Boone, Logan and Putnam, has two representatives in the state House. Democrat Jeff Eldridge of Lincoln County is the district’s other representative.
Barker, a Democrat, has been serving as Danville’s town manager for the past five years. He has also served as an assistant football coach at Chapmanville Regional High School.
The new delegate said all friends and associates are invited to the ceremony. “I appreciate all the support I received from so many friends and colleagues as the governor considered my appointment,” Barker said. “Hopefully, many can come by the capitol Monday to share in this moment.”
Barker will complete Stower’s term, which is set to end December 31, 2014. Members of the House are elected every two years, meaning 22nd District voters will be asked to select their two representatives in the 2014 elections for the term beginning in January 2015.
