Sexual obsessions and crimes
The thought has crossed my mind often in the past few years of how prevalent sexual obsessions and crimes have become. They are in the news every day. What a sex-obsessed society we have become! It’s a sad and sickening reality but not shocking to us, it seems. Like the story of the frog immersed in a pot of water, the heat increased but he was unaware of his demise.
Then, in connection with my thought, I happened to read an article which referenced this subject in the Old Testament Book of Hosea. Both used this phrase, ‘spirit of whoredom’; he wondered if that is what we are experiencing today in humans. It could very well be; it is something to ponder.
See if you agree…
‘The Lord has a grievance with the people of the land because There is no truth, no mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land, Only swearing, lying, killing, stealing, and committing adultery… My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge. Because you rejected knowledge and forgot the law of your God, I will forget your children! … Whoring and wine … take away My people’s wits … The Spirit of Whoring makes them err, they go off who deserting their God … Your daughters behave like whores, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery… the men are going off with whores and sacrificing with prostitutes … A people with no understanding will come to ruin … Their deeds won’t allow them to return to their God for the spirit of whoring is in them … The Lord has withdrawn Himself.’
There is much more, but I feel this is enough to hopefully cause some of us to read, pray, study God’s advice to us. The answer for us is ‘Come, let us return to the Lord… He will heal us… He will revive us. Let us strive to know the Lord.’ Let’s not pretend to return; God will not be mocked by me or you. Return sincerely from the heart.
