Does it not really matter what the Bible says? In her column of July 15, Victoria Ball-Perry said, “… our Father knocks on our hearts door. He loves us and He wants us to accept His love and His free gift of salvation.” The Bible says nothing of the kind. Just making up things that people might want to hear is the very epitome of false teaching.

First, there is no such thing as a free gift of salvation to be found in the Bible. Second, God the Father never offered a gift of salvation to anyone, not even to the saints and prophets of old. Even those saints and prophets had to wait for Jesus Christ to come and preach to them before they could get into Heaven. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. If God the Father had offered the gift of salvation, there would not have been a need for Jesus and His New Covenant, and Jesus would have gone to the Cross in vain.

God the Father sent His Son into the world to offer mankind the free gift of grace, not a free gift of salvation. Grace alone does not equal salvation. Salvation can only be gained by grace through faith, and that faith can only be expressed by following after Jesus and obeying His teaching.

I once heard an old man suggest that we (Christians) should go back to stoning sinners. With so much false teaching in the world today, it’s not really surprising or unseasonable that people should get that idea. After all, if Christians have a moral duty from God to do something about the shiners of this world, why shouldn’t Christians obey God and stone those sinners?

But, it’s not true. Christians do not have a moral duty to do anything about other people’s sins. The only responsibility that Christians have is for their own salvation; a responsibility to live their lives in such a way that they are a witness for Jesus Christ. The false teaching only serves the Republican Party, not Christians and certainly not God.
