MAN — The April meeting of START (Seniors Taking Active Roles Today) was held Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Bruce McDonald Memorial United Methodist Church. Attendees were greeted with pastel colored tablecloths sporting buckets of flowers and large tissue flowers. The ceiling offered colorful umbrellas hung upside down and right side up.
A welcome and blessing of the food was followed by a ‘pot luck’ lunch provided by members included ham, chicken, lasagna, veggies, salads, breads and lots of desserts that was enjoyed by all. As is the custom of START, those attending who celebrated a birthday in the month of April were the leaders to the buffet table.
START resident Baker, Zettie Brown, made a beautiful cake celebrating the adage “April Showers Bring May Flowers”
Following luncheon, the minutes of the March meeting were read and a treasurer’s report were given.
Those recognized for celebrating birthdays in April were Shirley Brown, Lee Noel, and Donna McNeely.
Dr. Pat Joe White, START member, gave information on how an absentee ballot could be acquired and voted. An absentee ballot was for those who would not be in town on the day of election or if they were unable to get to the polls.
START decided to give a donation to the Town of Man to be used toward the construction of the Veterans Memorial being built at the intersection of RT 10 and Hanging Rock Road.
