LOGAN — Logan Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of AWVHA (Auxiliary of West Virginia Hospital Association), held their annual scholarship awards and installation of new officers luncheon at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan on June 28.


The meeting was opened by President Beverly Roark who welcomed special guests and scholarship recipients and their families. Following invocation given by Auxilian Cecil Willis, a luncheon was catered and served by Granny Jack’s.


Special guests welcomed and attending were Ron Lemon, Vice President of Development at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College; Peggy Vance, LPN Supervisor at Ralph R. Willis Vocational and Technical School; and Teresa McNeely, Associate CNO at Logan Regional Medical Center.


Lemon expressed Southern’s thanks and appreciation for their association with the auxiliary in their continued efforts to help as many young students attend college. Scholarships are one of the auxiliary’s main goals during the year. Scholarships awarded to students attending Southern were Ronald Jennings, Radine Queen Paramedic Scholarship; Shawntel Canterbury, surgical tech; and Billie Jo Bigley, RN program.


Scholarships awarded to students attending Ralph R. Willis in the LPN Program were Rebecca Watts, Brent Robinson, Jamie L Johnson and Elizabeth Johnston.


Celebration of birthdays for auxilians having birthdays during July, August and September were Juanita Clay, Mary Beth Ferrell, Edna Napier and Hessie Gunnells.


A special monetary gift was presented by the auxiliary to Betty Spears, who recently lost her home to a fire.


Installation of new officers of the Auxiliary for 2014-2016 was presented by Beverly Roark, out-going president. Those installed were Betty Lambert, President; Pat Joe White, 2nd Vice President; Peggy Heatherman, Secretary; Midge Cox, Treasurer, and Pauline Fortune, Assistant Treasurer.


A special business discussion was held by Gay Cook on the up-coming annual meeting at the Greenbrier of the AWVHA and the needs involved to have special fundraisers and help with the expenses needed to attend the meeting.


The meeting was closed by members with the reading of the Auxilians Prayer.
