A Man area resident has been accused of taking his grandmother’s automobile while she was asleep and then becoming involved in an accident near Three Mile Curve due to alcohol he had consumed.

According to the criminal complaint, Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Logan 911 call about a single car vehicle crash near Hickory Lane Bridge. When officers arrived, they observed Michael Douglas Brock, 27, exiting the driver’s seat of the vehicle with assistance through the windshield of the vehicle.

Upon speaking with Brock, officers could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath.

Deputies administered a preliminary breath test and the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, which Brock allegedly failed. He was unable to perform all of the field sobriety tests due to his condition.

Brock was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

After being placed under arrest, Brock consented to the Intoximeter which gave the result of .122. Officers ran a driver’s history check on Brock and found that he had one prior DUI in South Carolina.

Officer’s spoke with Brock’s grandmother while at the hospital and she stated that Brock did not have permission to take the vehicle and that she was asleep when she got the call that he had crashed.

Brock was booked on September 22 at Southwestern Regional Jail for DUI (2nd offense), Joyriding, driver’s license revoked for DUI and failure to maintain control of vehicle. His bail was set at $3,000.
