Shop with a Deputy Sheriff gearing up for 7th season

The Logan County Deputy Sheriff Association has begun fundraising efforts for their 7th season of “Shop with a Deputy Sheriff.”
During the event, which is set for December 14, children will be paired with a deputy sheriff to assist the child in their Christmas shopping.
The Shop with a Deputy Sheriff is funded by community donations. This year, letters have been sent out to area businesses asking for contributions. According to Deputy Sheriff F.N. Ferrell II, president of the Logan County Deputy Sheriff Association, there will be no telephone solicitations.
“We want to let everyone know that we are not calling anybody,” Ferrell said. “We are not doing phone solicitation anymore. If someone calls somebody asking for money for the Logan County Deputy Sheriff Association that is not us… at all.”
Ferrell said the Association has a facebook page, LCSD Shop with a Deputy Sheriff, which was been set up for this event only.
“If anyone wants to donate, the information is on there,” Ferrell said.
Children are selected from among a list compiled by Logan County schools of disadvantaged students. Deputies will first purchase items needed for the child, like new shoes and a coat, before allowing the child to purchase fun items for themselves.
“We usually spend about $200 on each kid,” Ferrell said. “After we purchase them a pair of shoes and a coat, then they buy whatever they want to, either for themselves or for their brothers, sisters and parents.”
The Shop with a Deputy Sheriff fundraising will end around the first part of December. Anyone wishing to donate may drop off their contribution to the Logan County Sheriff’s office at the Logan County Courthouse or mail a check to: Attn. Shop with a Deputy Sheriff, P.O. Box 472 Stollings, WV 25646 or Attn. Shop with a Deputy Sheriff , 300 Stratton Street Rm. 209 Logan WV 25601. Receipts for the contribution will be mailed at the contributor’s request.
