Since January, approximately 1,800 people in Logan County have enrolled in Medicaid a part of the Medicaid Expansion in the state of West Virginia. As with most programs with guidelines, the wait for a decision can takes weeks or months.

Logan Regional Medical Center recently began using the Active Presumptive Eligibility (PE) Process, a process that allows hospitals to enroll patients and their families who are likely to be eligible in Medicaid immediately, without waiting for an eligibility determination from the state.

“As of this past Mon., Feb. 17, Logan Regional Medical Center is now using the Active Presumptive Eligibility (PE) Process,” said John Walker, Chief Executive Office of Logan Regional Medical Center said. “This means we can help qualify the public for Medicaid “on the spot” and print them a card immediately at the hospital.”

Using the Active Presumptive Eligibility (PE) Process, a patient provides basic information — name, contact information, date of birth, household size, and monthly income — to an intake worker at LRMC. This information is assessed “on the spot” as to whether the person has an income at or below Medicaid income eligibility guidelines for the state. If so, the LRMC intake worker can determine the individual or family to be presumptively eligible for Medicaid for a temporary period.

“Even though requirements to meet Medicaid eligibility have been expanded in West Virginia, not all will be able to qualify for Medicaid coverage,” Walker said. “Therefore we encourage everyone in need of healthcare coverage to call Logan Regional Medical Center and we can assist them in applying for other coverage.”

You can call 1-888-982-9144 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
