Chase Herndon has done it.


The sixth-grade student at Beth Haven Christian School has won the state championship in the West Virginia Archery in the Schools Tournament.


Herndon has competed in tournaments all over the state of West Virginia this season, bringing home four first-place trophies in six competitions and one overall highest score in one tournament.


Herndon competes in the middle school division, going up against sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.


In the recent West Virginia State Archery Tournament, Herndon scored an impressive 291 points out of a possible 300. His score was the second highest score shot amongst middle school and high school students in the state tournament.


He now advances to the National Archery Tournament, which will be held at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Ky., on May 9-10.


Also, since Herndon won first place at the state tournament, he is an automatic qualifier to the World Archery Championsihps, set for July 11-13 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.


Some of the other area and regional schools participating in the state archery tournament were Man, Chapmanville and Winfield.


Herndon is the son of Steve and Misha Herndon of Holden.
