A federal program that provides free meals to lower-income children during the summer kicked off in West Virginia Wed., June 11, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Charleston with Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and other officials attending.


The Summer Food Service Program provides funds to county school boards and other nonprofit organizations to provide meals to children 18 years and under.


Breakfast and lunch is open to all children, ages 18 years and under, who would like to participate.


Meals will be served at the following sites in Logan County thanks to the Logan Co. Board of Education’s sponsorship:

  • Buffalo Grade School from June 23-Aug.1; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and Lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • C-Ville Middle from June 23-Aug.1; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Boy Scout Camp from July 7-11; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Holden 5&6 Church from June 23-27; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Logan High from June 16-Aug. 1; Breakfast 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Girl Scout-State Park from June 16-19; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-noon
  • Youthworks Central JH from June 18-Aug.1; lunch only, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Energy Express at Logan Elementary from June 23-Aug.1; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • STEM Camp at Logan Middle from June 16-27; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Logan Library each Thursday from June 23-July 31; lunch only, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • McConnell Baptist from June 26- Aug. 1; lunch only, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Man Middle School from June 23- Aug. 1; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m.
  • Omar from June 23- Aug. 1; Breakfast 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m.


A nutritious meal is important for children to learn, play and remain active during the summer months.
