The theme “The Outdoor… Open Door” was the heart of the West Virginia State Conservation Camp during the week of June 10-15, 2013, when approximately 100 youth from across West Virginia participated in a unique camping experience. West Virginia State Conservation Camp also celebrated its 72nd anniversary this year.
Campers participated in classes and outdoor recreation activities lead by leaders from the natural resource agencies which include: West Virginia Division of Forestry, USDA - Natural Resources Conservation Service, West Virginia University Extension Service, Conservation Districts, Department of Environmental Protection, US Parks Service, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources State Park, Law Enforcement and Wildlife and Fishery sections.
This unique camping experience allows youth to interact with professionals (naturalists, foresters, educators, wildlife and fisheries biologists, natural resources police officers, water quality specialists and soil scientists) who work to protect the natural resources of West Virginia.
