Logan Regional Medical Center (LRMC) Auxiliary held its annual scholarship awards luncheon Saturday, June 29, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi in Logan. The meeting was opened by LRMC Auxiliary President Beverly Roark who welcomed the auxilians, scholarship recipients and their


families, special guests John Walker, CEO of LRMC, Carol Cole, Public Relations Specialist at


Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (SWVCTC); and Diana Simmons, President of Auxiliary of West Virginia Hospital Association (AWVHA), and her husband Lewis from Buchannon.


Decorations for the luncheon commemorated the July 4 holiday and favors given in honor of West Virginia’s 150 birthday. The luncheon was catered by Granny Jack’s following invocation which was given by guest, Rev. Barney Goins.


This is the second year the Auxiliary has given the Radine Queen Paramedic Scholarship honoring the first president of LRMC Auxiliary. Queen worked many hours and recruited many ladies to reach her goal of having a successful Auxiliary for Logan Regional Medical Center (formerly Logan General Hospital). The recipient of this year’s Paramedic Scholarship is William Zerrien.


Five scholarships for the RN program at SWVCTC were awarded to Genieve Shepherd, Angel Copley, James Casey, Kara Goins and Kristal O’Brien.


One scholarship was given to Brianna Wright for the Surgical Technology Program and one given to Ryan Simpkins for the EMT Program at SWVCTC.


Six scholarships for the LPN Program at Ralph R. Willis Vocational School were given to Angelina William, Stephanie Ross, Miranda Hall, Stacy Stollings, Natasha Evans and Crystal


Stewart.


The Scholarship Program that the LRMC Auxiliary provides to deserving students in the Logan area is the biggest project the auxiliary works toward for their service to the hospital. These scholarships are funded to those entering the medical field. The Auxiliary has funded over $200,000 in scholarships to Logan County students since 2001.
