Upward Look: Thou hast done wonderful things
“O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise they name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” (Isiah 25:1)
The prophet Isiah looks ahead to when the Lord will reign in Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before its elders gloriously. When he thinks of all the blessings that will be injoyed by all those who dwell in the kingdom, he can do no less than exalt the Lord and praise His holy name. God has done wonderful things, that were planned long ago in faithfulness and truth. Although universal tribulation will proceed the kingdom blessings, God’s people are to take hope in the fact that God has not forsaken them, but will one day bring them back to the holy city, and will reign from Mount Zion.
We who live on this side of the cross of Christ can also praise and exalt the name of the Lord because of His goodness to us. When we remember how Jesus was willing to leave His heavenly home and come to earth to give His life as a ransom for sinful mankind, our hearts overflow with gratitude. We will never be able to repay Him for the salvation that is ours because of His sacrifice on our behalf. We do not deserve this outpouring of love, and we cling to His promise that He will always be with us, and has gone to prepare for us a heavenly home. The wonderful things He has done and continues to do is a constant cause for rejoicing for Christians. May we never forget His amazing grace, mercy and love. Praise you, Lord!
The Psalmist cried out in words of praise,
At the kingdom blessings that were to be,
When the Lord would reign in Mount Zion,
And the Holy City they would again see.
We also exalt the name of Jesus,
Who died on Calvary,
For sinful mankind,
That we might live eternally.
Dear Lord, We preaise and exalt your holy name for all the blessings you pour out upon us. In Jesus name we pray. A-men.
