“But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; he that heareth, let him hear; and he that forebeareth, let him forbear; for they are a rebellious house.” (Ezekiel 3:27)

Sometimes we shut our ears to that which is being spoken because we do not want to hear what is being said. We see this in our children at times, and in others with whom we come in contact. We may not be interested in what the person is saying, or we may be afraid that their words will require something of us that we are unwilling to do.

As Godly ministers stand before their congregations Sunday after Sunday, bringing to the people a message that the lord has put upon their hearts, the words sometimes fall on deaf ears. They do not want to hear what is expected of them because they do not want to give the time and energy needed to complete the task. What blessings they miss when they do not get involved in a particular work that is important to the ministry of the church.

The prophet Ezekiel had a message from God to the people of Israel. The Lord God said that whosoever will listen, let him listen, and whoever refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house. In other words, the choice was up to them. Those who decided to hear what the Lord said would listen, and those who would not, would close their ears, refusing to hear and obey.

May we see the importance of listening to God’s message to us, and then like the prophet Isaiah, (Isaiah 6:8) may we say, “Here am I; send me.” What blessings will be ours when we hear and obey.

When the word of God is spoken,

Some will listen and obey,

While others will refuse to listen,

And go their own way.

So may we see the need,

To listen to our Lord,

So we will know what He would have us do,

And our obedience He will reward.

Dear God, May our ears be attuned to what You would have us hear, and may we in obedience go out to do your will. In Jesus name we pray. A-men.
