“I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.” (Micah 2:12)

The judgment against the land of Israel will surely come to pass, and the prophet Micah did not hesitate to warn teh people of the coming captivity of Judah by the Babylonians. He also brought words of hope to the people as he told of God’s promised restoration. He would gather the remnant, those who had remained faithful to Him. He would bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture. They would be heard because of their large number.

As we read the words of Micah, we reminded of another prophet, the prophet Elijah, who was concerned about how few Israelites were following the Lord. He told God that the children of Israel had forsaken His covenant, and thrown down His altars and killed the prophet with the sword. He was sure that he was the only one left who was following the Lord, and his enemies were seeking his life. (I Kings 19:14)

God then revealed to Elijah that He ad “seven thousand in Israel which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” (vs. 18) How encouraged Elijah must have been to know that he was not alone.

We may sometimes become discouraged at the small number of people who are involved in the work of the Lord in our churches. We are concerned that many of our church pews re empty, and the lack of interest in spiritual matters becomes more prevalent, despite the fact that Godly ministers continue to preach fervently in the Word of God.

The apostle Paul reminds us that “Even so at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” (Romans 11:5) May we pray for those who fail to see the importance of being faithful to the Lord.

Poem:

Although we may be very concerned,

About those who are not faithful to the Lord,

And His work among His people,

They seem to disregard.

But He tells us there is a remnant,

Who to Him is true,

And they will continue to be faithful,

As His will they pursue.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, May I be among the number who remain true to you despite anything that happens in my life. In Jesus name I pray. A-men.
