I have already lived most of my life in this world. It is Springtime on the calendar, but I am into the Wintertime of life. I have never had more fun in living than I do now. All I have ever enjoyed I still enjoy and understand it all a lot more than I ever did.
I am writing this column on the day Spring begins. Where I live in magnificent West Virginia, one of the most wonderful states, loaded with exquisite beauty, the flowers of the season are preparing for their annual Easter parade of new creations. The snows of Winter have made their appearance in grand style and I enjoyed each new snowfall.
On the day before Spring officially arrived, I listened to Larry Edmonds deliver a speech on that which governs most of life. You knew for sure that he was talking about “ATTITUDE”, — capitalized all the way.
He did it with an “acrostic” which is simply defined as a word puzzle, wordplay — another word game. He gave a special meaning to every word, all of which started with a letter in the important word we call “attitude.” Larry Edmonds vigorously attached his acknowledge of attitude with words that help us understand what attitude is all about.
A – Activity such as Bible study, prayer and action are important.
T – Time to concentrate on important things.
T – Trust placed in God, self, family and friends.
I – Impossible things tend to overwhelm us. The angel said, “For nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).
T – Testimony, our own is very important in our daily living and example.
U – Understand what God wants us to do.
D – Determination is often the important key to success.
E – Education is learning and having enthusiasm for life.
Not only are politicians of every rank from the lowest to the highest, failing us in unbelievable ways, but we are also being failed by economists, educators, athletics and in dozens of other ways. Movies and television are both more filthy and meaningless than we have ever known.
Crime of every kind seems to be on the rise. “You shall not murder.” Our society murders millions of unborn babies and we call it abortion and say it is legal. International tensions mount every day.
Sexual immorality is becoming the normal for many. Living as dead civilizations did just before their collapse. You may read about it in First Corinthians 6:9-20 and Romans 1:14-32. The brilliant and scholarly Paul wrote both of these great books in the New Testament.
Our world is in big trouble. Think seriously about how long you think it will continue to exist.
