Tigers to play Poca in Aug. 17 Cardinal Grid
By Paul Adkins
The pairings have been set for the inaugural Cardinal Conference Gridorama, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 17 at Mingo Central High School’s Buck Harless Stadium.
The Chapmanville Regional High School Tigers are scheduled to open the preseason grid at 3:30 p.m. in a scrimmage against the Poca Dots.
Game 2 will follow at 5 p.m. as Sissonville takes on Tolsia.
The third game has Wayne and Scott battling each other at 6:30 p.m.
The fourth and final scrimmage has the host Mingo Central Miners taking on Herbert Hoover at 8 p.m.
Chapmanville is looking to rebound from last year’s 4-6 record. It was the first time since 2006 the Tigers had not advanced to the Class AA state playoffs. Last year’s sub .500 season also broke a string of six straight winning seasons.
The Tigers beat Poca 34-33 last season at home in Week 4.
Chapmanville and Poca will meet again on Sept. 20 at Poca in a regular season clash.
Practices begin for the upcoming season on Monday, Aug. 5 across the state of West Virginia.
The Tigers open the season Aug. 30 at home against the Sissonville Indians.
