NEWTOWN – Several local football players will put on the pads one more time as they hit the turf at Buck Harless Stadium this Saturday night to take on the all-star team from Kentucky.

“It means a lot to me to be a part of this and to play with Isaac (Parsley) too,” said former Tug Valley running back Aaron Muncy. “It will be good to play alongside Isaac and some of the other West Virginia players. I hope I represent Tug Valley and West Virginia well.”

Parsley, who was an all-state defensive lineman, will be heading to West Virginia Wesleyan in a couple of weeks to play football for that college.

“I’ve waited forever to play in this game,” Parsley said. “It will be a great experience and we have a lot of talent. It will be fun to play on this team.”

“This should help me get ready for college and start getting in game shape,” Parsley added.

Garth Simpkins, the former two-way starting lineman for Mingo Central, is also excited about playing before his hometown crowd.

“It will feel great getting to play in front of the people who have supported me all these years,” Simpkins said. “I’m really excited. It will be huge to get to run out onto the Mingo Central field one more time. I think this team is meshing well. I know David (Jones) has a good team for Kentucky. I look forward to playing against some of those guys.”

Other Mingo Central players on the roster are all-state utility player Joe May, defensive end Israel Reynolds, linebacker Joe Hall, defensive back Joe Jackson and lineman Quentin Yates. The Miners made the Class AA playoffs for the first time last season.

The kickoff is slated for 8 p.m.

At halftime, five former homecoming queens will vie for the title of the Hatfield-McCoy Bowl Queen. There will also be several awards presented at the conclusion of the game, including offensive and defensive MVPs for both squads.
