WHARNCLIFFE — It was not a good showing for the Chapmanville Regional High School golf team which finished seventh place and dead last in the Cardinal Conference Golf Tournament at the Twisted Gun Golf Club in Wharncliffe on Thursday.
Chapmanville had a 393 for the day — three strokes behind sixth-place Sissonville, which finished with a 390.
Scott won the conference title with a 329. Poca (336) was second, Wayne (356) third, Mingo Central (364) fourth and Herbert Hoover (374) fifth. Tolsia did not complete.
Sterling Chafin from Scott was the medalist of the match with a score of 71. He, along with teammates Evan Butcher and Nick Dolan, Mingo Central’s Garrett Bevins, Sissonville’s Taylor Schmeck, Chapmanville’s Jacob Workman, Poca’s Travis Covert, Alex Hamrick, David Scragg and Wayne’s Nathaniel Earl, were named to the Cardinal Conference all-conference team.
Chapmanville also got a 94 from Forrest Roberts. Jacob Blevins had a 102 and Casey Vance a 114.
Butcher and Dolan each had an 85 for Scott. Jonathan Butcher had an 88. Aaron Grant was disqualified.
Scragg led Poca with a 72. Hamrick had a 74, Covert a 77 and Caleb Luikart a 113.
Wayne was led by Earl’s 81. Brett Justice shot an 88, Ryan Mills a 90, Justin Crockett a 97 and Daniel Bloss a 98.
Bevins paced Mingo Central with an 84. Alex Warden had a 90, Kyle Surber a 94, Caleb Spencer a 96 and Brennon Sloan a 108.
Herbert Hoover was led by Bradley Coleman, who shot an 87. Nick Calvert had a 90, Luke McClure a 97 and Jordan Holstein a 100. Trentin Coleman was disqualified.
Schmeck led the Sissonville Indians with an 85 for the day. Devon Walker had a 90, Rachel Cruicksank a 105, Trent Bodner a 110 and Jared Oxley a 111.
