It was a good opening week for Logan County’s three middle school football teams.

County squads went 2-1 on Thursday night as Man went to Poca and shut out the Dots, 16-0, and Chapmanville Middle School won 26-14 at home over Sherman.

Logan Middle School lost 39-0 to Belfry (Ky.) in its season opener.

Dylan Smith scored three touchdowns to lead Chapmanville in its victory. It was the debut game for new Tigers’ coach Dwight Dingess. He replaced James Barker, who moved on to the Chapmanville Regional High School team as the squad’s new offensive coordinator.

The Man Pioneers were led by Zach Cook, who scored both of his team’s touchdowns on runs of 8 and 10.

Man Middle returns to the field on Thursday at home against Van. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

No further details were available on the three games.
