Thursday’s Logan-Chapmanville middle school football game was the tale of two halves.
Logan Middle, sparked by a second-half comeback, eventually came out on top 28-24 in a game which was played at the Logan Football Stadium.
CMS led 24-14 at the half but was outscored 14-0 in the final two quarters by Logan (1-4), which won its first game of the season.
“At halftime we made a few adjustments and the defense really stepped up in the second half,” LMS Coach Barry Scott Grimmett said. “I am very proud of every one of our players. They never quit when they were down and fought hard for the win. We have to get back to work on Monday and get ready for the county championship game with Man.”
Logan Assistant Coach Brian Lauck said it was nice to get a win since LMS has had such a rough season.
“This was a nice win for our program. We got off to a rough start this season, but our players keep working hard and it’s starting to pay off.”
The Timberwolves came out at halftime and turned it up a couple notches on defense.
Levi Davis then scored on a touchdown reception from Trey Jude and also had two TD runs.
David Early had a kickoff return for a touchdown to help lead LMS.
Logan was coming off last week’s 22-7 loss to Ravenswood.
Man Middle 24,
OCEANA — The Man Middle School football team ran its record to 3-1 on the season with Thursday night’s 24-20 win at unbeaten Oceana.
The Indians entered the game 4-0 and had been unscored upon.
The Pioneers scored on a 50-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Zach Cook to Zach Maynard. Man also got an interception return for another score by Chris Walker. Trey Whitt added a touchdown catch and Hunter Epperheart tacked on a TD run.
Man is at Logan this Thursday in a county showdown with the county title on the line.
