Logan County’s three high schools were well represented in this week’s West Virginia State Golf Championships which were held at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.


In Class AAA, Logan High School’s Samuel Corns shot a two-day total of 171. Corns fired an 85 and an 86.


Cole Hand of Wheeling Park was the Triple-A medalist as he shot a 149, besting Alex Schreckengost of Parkersburg South and Tyler Hillyer of Princeton by three strokes. Oak Hill’s Craig Buchanan was five shots off the pace with a 154.


Led by Hand, Wheeling Park won the Class AAA state title with a 472. Cabell Midland (477) was second and Shady Spring (478) third. It was Park’s third state title in the last four years.


In the Class AA division, Chapmanville Regional High School’s Jake Workman had a 90 and a 91 for a two-day total of 181.


Scott was led by Evan Butcher who had a 163. Sterling Chafin of Scott had a 167 while Aaron Grant fired a 182.


In the 2A team standings, Roane County won the title with a 458, taking its second straight state championship. Poca, a Cardinal Conference team, was second with a 496. Westside (508) was third, Ritchie County (509) fourth, Scott (512) fifth, Grafton (517) sixth, Wyoming East (526) seventh and Bridgeport (540) eighth. Scott is also a member of the Cardinal.


Alston Spears of Roane County was the Class AA medalist with a 148. Cole Moore, also of Roane County, was four shots back with a 152. Another Roane County golfer, Cam Moore, had a 158. Poca’s Alex Hamrick finished with a 159. Jonathon Butcher and Nick Dolan also competed for the Skyhawks but were well off the pace.


In Class A, Man High School was represented by Baley Beckwith, who had a 173.


Michael Rogers of Weirton Madonna had the top Single-A total with a 152. Aaron Persily of Charleston Catholic was one stroke back with a 153. Christian Casingal of Charleston Catholic was four shots back, while Coleman Lamp of St. Marys was six shots behind.


Charleston Catholic won the Class A state team title with a 473. Madonna (483) was second and Buffalo (518) third.
