CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School volleyball team advanced in the Class AA sectional tourney on Monday night at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.


The host and No. 4-seeded Lady Tigers beat No. 5 seed Scott 3-0, then rolled to an easy 3-0 victory over No. 1 seed Tolsia.


Mingo Central, the third seed, beat No. 2 Wayne 3-2 to advance as well in the double elimination tourney. Wayne then won 3-0 over Scott to eliminate the Lady Hawks.


On Tuesday night, sectional play was to continue with Chapmanville taking on Mingo Central. The winner moves on to play in Wednesday night’s championship match. The loser will play winner of Wayne-Tolsia match. The winner of that then moves on to the finals.


“I’m very proud of my girls,” Lady Tigers’ first-year coach Johnny Williamson said. “We lost to Tolsia twice in regular season. Hillary Hainer and Shian Meeks are playing very good right now.”
