Both the Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team and the Logan High School girls are ranked No. 6 in the state in this week’s poll.

The Chapmanville boys are 9-2 and No. 6 in the state in the Class AA poll. The Tigers fell one spot are losing 62-59 in overtime at home to Cardinal Conference team and sectional opponent Wayne last Friday night. The Pioneers are ranked No. 13. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Wayne but the game was flipped to CRHS due to a lack of heat at the Wayne gym.

The Logan girls (9-4) rose one spot to sixth this week.

Three other teams in Logan’s Class AAA sectional are in the top 10. Huntington (14-1) is third, Spring Valley (10-3) is fifth and Cabell Midland (8-1) eighth.

The only loss for the Huntington girls was Dec. 20 at Logan when the Lady Cats won 62-54 over the Highlanders.

Cardinal Conference boys’ team Poca is 8-1 and ranked No. 4 in the state this week. Scott is 12th.

On the girls’ side, Cardinal teams Sissonville (10-2) and Scott (7-2) are ranked sixth and seventh respectively. Both have been beaten in conference play this season by unranked Chapmanville. The Lady Tigers beat Sissonville 48-46 at home on Jan. 9 and also downed Scott 49-37 on Jan. 17 at home in a game which was moved to Chapmanville from Madison due to the water problems in Boone County.

Several games across Logan County and the region have been postponed in the last two weeks due to wintry weather.
