MAN — The Chapmanville Regional High School boys’ basketball team made it a sweep over Man as the Tigers clawed the Hillbillies 90-58 on Tuesday night at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
Josh Butcher ripped the nets for 32 points, hitting eight 3-pointers as Chapmanville improved to 16-5 on the season and beat Man for the fifth straight time dating back to last season.
It was the fourth straight win for the Tigers.
Man, which closed out the regular season, fell to 10-11.
Kenny Plumley also had a big night for Coach Allan Hatcher’s Tigers as he poured in 29 points. Trey Dalton dished out a whopping 19 assists to lead the Tiger attack.
Chapmanville jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
The Tigers then outscored the Billies 21-12 to take a commanding 42-18 halftime lead. The third period was pretty even as CRHS outscored Man 21-19 to go on top 63-37. A 27-21 fourth by Chapmanville then set the final score.
Trevor Nagy added 12 points for Chapmanville. Brady Cox and Jordan Butcher had three points each. Zac Casto and Corey Preece tallied two points apiece.
Man was led by sophomore John Thomas Keffer’s 26 points. Jake Adkins had 12, Daniel Buchanon eight and Kenny Joe Adkins five. Gabby Brown netted four and Erik Files three.
Chapmanville made 30-of-52 shots from the floor for a sizzling 58 percent. The Tigers were 12-for-22 from 3-point land for 54.5 percent and 18-for-26 from the free throw line.
Man was only 22-for-59 from the field for 37.3 percent and 11-for-20 from the foul line.
The Billies will now get ready for Class A sectional tournament play and are scheduled to host Van on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse. If Man wins the Billies will travel to Greater Beckley Christian on Tuesday night in the sectional semifinals.
Greater Beckley Christian (10-5) is the No. 1 seed, while Tug Valley (15-5) is No. 2. Sherman (8-10) is third, Man fourth, Van fifth and Montcalm sixth.
Tug Valley is scheduled to host Greater Beckley on Thursday night in the regular season finale. The Panthers are coming off Tuesday night’s 55-53 win at county rival Mingo Central. Tug Valley also beat the Miners 56-48 earlier in the season.
Man did not play Van during the regular season. The Bulldogs come into sectional play with a 7-13 record.
Van has wins this season over Regional Christian (64-57), Montcalm (37-35 and 68-65), Hannan (49-39 and 67-57), East Hardy (74-65) and Pocahontas County (60-56).
Montcalm goes into the sectional with a 2-14 mark.
The Tigers were scheduled to have a makeup game on Wednesday night at Tolsia.
Chapmanville is matched up with Mingo Central on March 5 in the Class AA sectional tourney at Logan High School.
