The Matewan Tigers and the Gilbert Lions will battle it out on the football field one more time this Saturday at Buck Harless Stadium on the campus of Mingo Central High School.
The two schools had a storied rivalry for many years.
This game will feature alumni of those two schools in a charity game with proceeds going to the Mingo Central Miners football program.
As game organizer Joey Fields said, “It’s time to break out the helmets and pads and go at it one last time on the gridiron.”
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with ticket prices $8 for adults and $5 for students and kids under the age of five will be admitted free.
Rosters have already been put together and many former all-state and all-area players have signed up to play one more time.
Players must have graduated or attended Gilbert or Matewan High Schools in order to participate. Uniforms and equipment are provided to both teams thru the sign-up fees.
