CHAPMANVILLE — With Tuesday’s 5-3 Class AA sectional tournament loss at home to Scott, the Chapmanville Regional High School softball team’s backs were against the wall.

Scott, up 1-0 in the best-of-three series, had a chance to wrap up the sectional championship on Wednesday night in Chapmanville. The Lady Hawks are looking for their first sectional title since 2008.

CRHS has beaten Scott in the sectional tourney five straight years and have won five titles in a row.

On Tuesday night at Chapmanville, the Lady Hawks were led by winning pitcher Ali Brown.

Sydney Daggott had a triple for Scott, while Sammi Jo Duffy doubled. Claudia Nelson had two hits, both singles, while Malorie Stevenson also singled. Cassidy Allen also had two hits for the Lady Hawks.

Cydnee Lambert was the starting pitcher and took the loss for the Lady Tigers (14-13).

Senior first baseman Lauryn Easterling hit a home run, a solo shot to center, and finished with two hits as she was 2-for-3. Shian Meeks was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles for Chapmanville.

Caitlin Elkins added a double and Savannah Wiley a single.

Chapmanville was coming off last Saturday’s 23-0 win at Tolsia in the regular season finale. The Lady Tigers had lost 8-3 at Logan last Friday and also fell 6-0 at Lincoln County last Wednesday.

Scott is now 2-0 against CRHS this season.

* Scott clinched the sectional championship with Wednesday night’s 3-1 win over host Chapmanville Regional.

Scott beat the Lady Tigers 2-0 in the best-of-three-series.

Scott (14-12) moves on to play two-time defending Class AA state champion Wayne on May 15 in the regional semifinals. The game will be played at Wayne.

Chapmanville saw its string of five straight sectional titles end and closed out the season with a 14-13 record.

St. Albans 0

NITRO — The Logan High School softball team, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class AAA, moved its record to 23-4 overall and 1-0 in sectional play with Tuesday’s 4-0 win over St. Albans in the sectional tourney at Nitro.

Logan was set to face Nitro in a sectional final doubleheader on Wednesday. Nitro beat St. Albans in Tuesday’s sectional tourney opener. With the two losses, St. Albans has been eliminated.

Hana Sedlock pitched the shutout on the mound for the Lady Cats.

No further information was available on the game.
