The Logan-based West Virginia Dream girls AAU basketball team recently completed a successful winter and spring AAU basketball season.
“We have four teams in our organization consisting of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-grade teams,” said Mike Tothe the head coach of the fifth and sixth grade teams. “We started working out back in February of this past winter. Hannah Tothe coached our seventh-graders and Billy Sipple coached our eighth-graders.”
The Dream fifth-grade team went 37-10 on the season, winning five tourney titles in Mount Airy (N.C.), Parkersburg, Logan, Fairmont and Zanesville (Ohio).
The team finished second in four other tourneys.
“This group is going to be a handful to play against in the coming years,” Mike Tothe said. “We have speed, ball-handling and shooting. Once we learn each other and the finer points of the game I wouldn’t want to play us.”
Team members include: Jill Tothe; Peyton Ilderton; Mika Dalton; Raegan Quick; Reyvin Cottle; Emma Elkins; Alyssa Goff; Makayla May; and Kaylea Jo Baisden. The team is coached by Mike Tothe and Bryce Dalton.
The Dream sixth-grade team finished 15-12, winning two tournament titles and finishing second in two others.
The team won tourneys in Fairmont and Zanesville.
Team members include: Hannah Robinette; Carly McComas; Carly Paynter; Kennedy Hamlet; Taylor Gore; Olivia Dalton; Jill Tothe; Peyton Ilderton; Mika Dalton; Kaylea Jo Baisden; Makayla May; and Raegan Quick. The team was coached by Mike Tothe, Hannah Tothe and Bryce Dalton.
The Dream seventh-grade team finished with a record of 16-13, winning one tourney title and finishing second in five other tourneys.
“We knocked off the No. 1 seeds in the Fairmont Shootout and Cincinnati Classic to reach those two tourney championship games,” Coach Hannah Tothe said. “We just came up short too many times with turnovers or missed free throws and it always cost us, but we had a good season.”
Team members include: Madison Webb; Kalee Blair; Haleigh Hughes; Britney Welch; Alexis Perry; Zoe Browning; Carly McComas; Carly Paynter and Hannah Robinette.
The Dream eighth-grade team is coached by Billy Sipple. The team stats were unavailable.
“The future is bright for our high school program as well as some of our surrounding high schools in part because of the hard work all of these girls have put in,” Mike Tothe said. “We have girls playing from Logan, Chapmanville, Tug Valley and Lincoln County. It is very hard to play outside our area in AAU let alone compete and we have always seemed to do that and to me because we can go to these bigger cities and compete we will one day cause some boys’ banners in the field house to be moved over. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and those who donated to our program to make this possible.”
