CHARLESTON — Fans of West Virginia high school basketball have an opportunity — for the first time — to watch the annual West Virginia North-South All-Star Basketball Classic live on the internet.
Tipoff for the classic is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.
Live coverage at www.wchstv.com begins at 7:15 p.m. with the pre game. The Media Center Charleston is producing the contest, which is being played at the South Charleston Community Center.
The all-star game marks a final coaching appearance for both Charleston Catholic’s Bill McClanahan, a co-coach for the South, and Tucker County’s Tom Gutshall, one of two coaches for the North. Both coaches are retiring.
The South, which won last year 92-81, leads the current series 25-6 since the game resumed in 1983. The West Virginia Athletic Directors Association, which sponsors the game, will award a pair of $500 college scholarships — one to a player on each team.
On the South All-Star roster is one local player, Brynden “Worm” Street of Logan High School. He’s headed to play football at Glenville State College this fall.
