It’s Christmas!! In the coming weeks our homes will be full of lights, wreaths, trees, and gifts wrapped and tied with bows. Children will be excited, family will visit, and we will joyfully celebrate family traditions. The season truly is one of joy and excitement.
It is joyful because we will share love, eat delicious food, and enjoy Christmas decorations but it’s true joy is deeper than that. In the midst of our hustle and bustle, buying and wrapping gifts, let’s remember that it is centered on our dear Savior’s birth. It can sometimes be difficult to center our holiday on what truly is significant, but we must.
What about the Christmas story is truly most significant? Which of the miraculous portions of the story is most important. We could talk about Mary’s miraculous obedience or the miracle of a virgin birth. We could talk about a star pronouncing the birth of an infant or angelic hosts proclaiming His future splendor. Perhaps the most miraculous event was the King of the universe being humble born in a stable.
Truly there are many facets of the story that are incredible, but I believe they fail in comparison to what happens in Matthew 1:23. The most important birth in all of the course of human history summed up in three words. “God with us”! The miracle of the Christmas is that He would leave His heavenly home to be with us. That He would meet us at the point of our imperfection and decide to come to us when we could not come to Him. That is what Christmas is about. It’s not about trees, gifts, and traditions. Nor is about a star, manger, or angelic hosts. It is about a God who loves us enough to rescue us.
This Christmas season remember the famous words of John 3:16 and then you will understand the true reason for season.
