The Aracoma Story Inc.’s production of “Mamie,” based on the true story of Mamie Thurman, was excellent. I was fortunate to see the Sunday, June 28, performance. It was a sell out attendance with standing room only! The weather was perfect. The cast was superb.
Even though I had heard the story all my life — the play really brought it to life. Joyce Robertson did a great job writing the play. Laura Hatfield was so talented and beautiful in her portrayal of Mamie. Steven Botch was great in his performance as Mamie’s husband. The entire cast did a remarkable job bringing the characters alive. I hope it continues for many seasons to come. Everyone did an absolutely great job. The entire cast and crew are to be commended for a really great job.
I loved the scenery — especially the mountain scenes. I only with the play could be presented at a different time of the season, as rain is always a problem in late June and early July. If only the weather was not so wet. Perhaps the play could be done earlier or later. I would suggest that another play should be done at the Coalfield Jamboree during the wet season. Of course, “Mamie” should definitely be done at the Liz Spurlock Ampitheatre as the setting is perfect for this tale.
Again, I wish to congratulate all that were involved — you did a great job and you definitely made all of Logan County proud. I wish you continued success in the future. I will continue to support your efforts. Logan County has so many talented artists. I am proud of all of you and I feel blessed to experience the new play.
Thank you all so much!
Best Wishes, “break a leg,”
