GILBERT – The Gilbert High School girls’ volleyball team captured the Class A sectional title with Wednesday night’s 3-2 win at home over Man.
The Lady Lions prevailed, 28-26, 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9.
Both teams advance to the Class A regional tourney, which is scheduled to be played on Saturday at Charleston Catholic.
Man stands at 13-18 on the season.
“My kids played extremely hard and I’m real proud of them,” Lady Billies’ coach Orlando Washington said. “Lindsay Whited had a really good match. Kerri Castillo played well and had a really good sectional overall.”
The Logan and Chapmanville high school volleyball teams have been eliminated from its respective sectional tourneys.
Logan lost to St. Albans and Capital on Tuesday in the 3A sectionals at George Washington. Host GW went on to beat South Charleston 3-0 in the championship match.
Chapmanville fell this week to Sissonville and Poca in the Class AA sectioinal at Herbert Hoover High School. Sissonville downed the host Huskies, 3-1, in the championship match.
