Editor,
Global education is a vastly growing problem in countries outside of our own. According to sources such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, one out of every five children in developing countries between the ages of 6-11 are not in school, seventy percent of which are females. Along with shocking facts as those, 226 million children do not attend high school.
These problems are the results of many serious factors: child labor, war, gender, disabilities, school fees, lack of teachers, and even diseases such as HIV/AIDS. In just one example, school fees prevent some children from being students. They're not being charged high rates high schools or colleges here offer either. Their fees are as little as $50-$100 a year and they can not pay it, thus keeping them from being educated.
Being educated is something we need for our world. We shouldn't have almost 862 million of our citizens illiterate. Education is the answer to questions we raise about issues such as poverty, health, finances, and even war.
