PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) — New sites are being added to the Hatfield McCoy GeoTrail in eastern Kentucky and southwest West Virginia for the second annual geocaching event in the area late this summer.

The GeoTrail website says the event is scheduled for Aug. 31. Last year, more than 500 people from 20 different states attended.

This year’s event will again feature a “Stolen Pig Roast.” Some of the new sites on the trail will be the grave of Ellison Hatfield and Goldies Hardware.

The global pastime of geocaching is a modern-day version of treasure hunting done with smartphones and other devices.

The trail is a partnership between the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce in Williamson, W.Va., and Tour Pike County in Pikeville, Ky.

Last year, it featured 15 caches.
