MAN, W.Va. — Millard “Corky” Clay, 70, of Man, went to his heavenly home Saturday, October 31, 2009, from Logan Regional Medical Center after long courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 16, 1939, at Man, he was a son of Mildred Williamson Clay of Man and the late Millard Clay Sr. Also preceding him in death was one sister, Carolyn Clay.

Corky was the owner and operator of Clay’s Supermarket and Sporting Goods at Kistler. He had been an active businessman in the Man area for over 50 years. Corky was a 1957 graduate of Man High School, where he played basketball and ran track. A Christian for over 10 years, he was a member of the Man Church of the Nazarene. An avid outdoorsman, Corky loved golf, hunting, fishing, and racing cars. He was a loving husband, son, father, and grandfather. Corky loved to play with children and was good to all the children that came around.

Additionally, those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 24 years, Margaret Nelson Clay; three daughters, Sherri (Joe) Miller of Man, Ellen (Jennings) Browning of Amherstdale and Cathy Clay of Colorado; one step-daughter, Drema (Gary) Walker of Madison; two step-sons, Kerry (Shelly) Dickens of Van and Brian (Cristy) Dickens of Gainesville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Timbo Bassham of Colorado, David (Danyale) Miller of Monitor, Ryan Johnson of Delbarton and Emily Jacobs of Amherstdale; five step-grandchildren, Melissa Walker (fiancé Eric Buckner) and Corey Walker, both of Madison, Chelsea and Brianna Dickens, both of Gainesville and Nina (Chase) Foster of Cabin Creek; two great-granddaughters, Tiffani Spradlin of Monitor and Jayden McCloud of Logan; one great-grandchild to be born in May 2010; a special cousin, Doug (Georgia) Williamson of Man, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, at the Man Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Gary Henry and Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Stacy, Kenneth “Botchie” McCoy, Jim Roach, Mike Ward, Rodney Adkins, Joe Chapman, Bobbie Lee Mitchell, Bill Cline, Bill Waybright, Tony Grimmett, Dudley Walls, and Raymond Napier.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

To the family of Millard "Corky" Clay, we wish to express our condolences to the family most importantly "Mom" Clay. Grew up with Corky and his family. He will be sorely missed.
