The hearing for the father charged with child neglect resulting in death was continued to allow him to attend his son’s funeral.

Timothy D. Marcum, 25, of Dingess, was charged with child neglect resulting in death after his one-month-old son Alexander Marcum died on March 5.

Marcum told officers he had fallen asleep with this son in his arms after taking prescription medication. The infant died after he slid down between his father’s arm and stomach and was unable to breathe.

The new hearing date for Marcum has not been set. On March 14, he was placed on home confinement with 24-hour lockdown except for emergency medical visits and lawyer appointments.

The infant’s 21-year-old mother, Bessie Marcum was also arrested and charged with child neglect resulting in death. She is out on bond awaiting her preliminary hearing, which is set for March 25.
