LOGAN — Efforts to locate the man suspected in the murder of Grover Morrison end in his death.

John Edward Dempsey was the prime suspect in the murder of Grover Morrison. Mr. Morrison was 88 years old and a loved and respected member of the community. His body was found Jan. 8 by a member of his close-knit family who said they had tried to reach him by phone for days and decided to go check on him. Arriving at the residence, they made the horrifying discovery of his death.

Law enforcement had been trying to locate Dempsey since Tuesday evening. Mr. Morrison’s car had been stolen and later recovered in a Man area parking lot. The drama that ended in Dempsey’s death also took place at Man.

Media reports say an officer at the Man Police Department confirmed Dempsey had been shot and killed by police.

Reportedly, the shooting happened after Dempsey shot a person near Taplin. Dempsey then allegedly carjacked a woman, who reportedly escaped unharmed. A police pursuit of Demspey led to the altercation which resulted in him being shot and killed.

The incident is still under investigation. More information will be provided as soon as it is available.
